Copycat Cheese Sliders (White Castle’s style)

This is the kind of American lunch you’ll make on repeat — ground beef (93/7) and slider buns, 30 minutes, big payoff. Each serving lands at 120 calories with 11g of protein, so it eats like a much heavier meal. No specialty equipment and nothing hard to find at a regular grocery store.

Ingredients

Steps

  1. Soak the dried onion in warm water for 10 minutes — rehydrated onion is the secret to that sweet steam-grilled White Castle flavor.
  2. Season the beef lightly, press it into a thin even rectangle, and poke it full of holes with a chopstick — the holes let steam pass through so the patties cook without flipping.
  3. Scatter the drained onions over a hot griddle, lay the beef sheet on top, and cover 4 minutes — the onions steam-cook the underside while the holes do the rest.
  4. Cut the beef into 4 squares, lay half a cheese slice on each, and crown with a bun top placed directly on the cheese so the steam softens it.
  5. Lift each slider with a spatula, add a pickle and a whisper of mustard to the bottom bun, and serve while the steam is still rising.
