Ingredients
- 1/2 loaf Cuban bread
- 4 oz Roast pork
- 2 slices Ham
- 2 slices Swiss cheese
- 4 chips Pickles
- 1 tbsp Yellow mustard
Steps
- Slice the Cuban bread lengthwise, keeping one long hinge. Spread yellow mustard on both cut faces.
- Layer the roast pork slices, then the ham, then the Swiss cheese, finishing with a single even row of pickle chips.
- Close the sandwich and press it firmly by hand to compact the layers.
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place the sandwich in and press it down hard with a heavy pan or a foil-wrapped brick — the flattening is what makes a Cuban a Cuban.
- Cook 3-4 minutes per side, keeping the pressure on, until the bread is deeply golden and crisp and the cheese has melted.
- Slice on a diagonal and serve hot, while the cheese is still pulling.
