Copycat ButterBurger with Cheese (Culver’s style)

An American dinner built around lean ground beef (90/10) and burger buns — on the table in 20 minutes. Each serving lands at 425 calories with 30g of protein, so it eats like a much heavier meal. Naturally high-protein, it scales cleanly if you are cooking for more than one.

Ingredients

Steps

  1. Butter the cut sides of the buns edge to edge — that is the entire ButterBurger idea, a bun toasted in butter until it turns lacy and crisp at the rim.
  2. Toast the buns in a dry skillet until deep gold; set aside warm.
  3. Form two loose 4-oz patties and sear in a ripping-hot cast iron, pressing once, 3 minutes a side, salting as they cook. Culver’s sears fresh chuck to order, and the crust should audibly crackle.
  4. Cheese in the final minute, with a teaspoon of water thrown in the pan and a lid on top for a perfect drape.
  5. Ketchup and mustard on the crown, pickles and onion on the heel — the Midwest build, no lettuce theatrics.
  6. Set the patty down, crown it, and rest 1 minute so the buttered bun and the juices meet in the middle.
