Ingredients
- 8 Bratwurst sausages
- 2 lb Frozen french fries
- 1 cup Tomato ketchup
- 3 tbsp Mild curry powder
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp Honey
- 3 cups Vegetable oil
Steps
- Simmer the ketchup, curry powder, Worcestershire, honey, and a pinch of cayenne in a saucepan for 5 minutes, stirring until it darkens and smells toasty. This sauce should taste like a Berlin street corner at 2 a.m.
- Fry the potatoes in 350°F oil until golden and crisp, 4 to 5 minutes per batch. Drain on a rack, salt aggressively, and keep warm. Double-frying is ideal but optional on a weeknight.
- Grill or pan-fry the bratwurst until the skins blister and split. Slice them on the bias into bite-size coins — currywurst is eaten with a tiny wooden fork, never a knife and fork.
- Plate the fries, arrange the sausage coins over them, and ladle the hot curry ketchup over everything.
- Dust with an extra pinch of curry powder over the top. Serve in a paper tray if you want the full U-Bahn experience.
