Ingredients
- 2 lb Taro root
- 1.5 cups Coconut milk
- 1.5 cups Brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp Salt
Steps
- Grate the peeled taro fine — wear gloves, raw taro irritates skin.
- Mix with coconut milk, brown sugar, and salt into a thick, sticky batter.
- Wrap in ti leaves or foil and steam 90 minutes until dense, dark, and fudgy.
- Cool completely before slicing; kulolo firms as it rests into chewy, caramel-like squares.
- Kulolo firms up over 24 hours — it is even better the day after you steam it.
