Ingredients
- 1.5 cups Rolled oats
- 2 cups Milk
- 3 tbsp Brown sugar
- 1 tbsp Butter
- 1/4 tsp Salt
Steps
- Bring the milk and salt to a bare simmer — never a boil, which makes the porridge gluey.
- Stir in the oats and cook low 8–10 minutes, stirring often, until thick and creamy.
- Rest 2 minutes off the heat; the gröt tightens as it stands, so pull it early.
- Serve with a knob of butter melting in the middle and brown sugar over the top.
- A spoonful of lingonberry jam on top is the traditional upgrade — tart against the sweet porridge.
