Copycat Hook & Ladder (Firehouse Subs’ style)

If you like sub rolls, you’ll love this American lunch — 20 minutes from craving to table. The macros do the talking: 40g protein, 40g carbs, and 13g fat in every 440-calorie serving. Naturally high-protein, it scales cleanly if you are cooking for more than one.

Ingredients

Steps

  1. Toast the rolls cut-side up under the broiler for 2 minutes — Firehouse steams theirs, and a hot toasty roll is the home version that actually improves on it.
  2. Pile the turkey and ham into loose folds on the bottom half, then blanket with Monterey Jack and broil 2 more minutes until the cheese melts and bubbles.
  3. Add the lettuce, tomato, and onion on top of the hot cheese; the cold crunch against the melted cheese is the signature contrast.
  4. Spread mustard on one side and a thin swipe of light mayo on the other — the mustard cuts the richness, the mayo carries it.
  5. Close, press, and serve with a dill pickle spear on the side; a hot sub without a cold pickle is a missed opportunity.
