Ingredients
- 6 oz Spam
- 2 cups Cooked rice
- 2 sheets Nori
- 2 tbsp Soy sauce
- 1 tbsp Sugar
Steps
- Slice the Spam into 8 even slabs, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Sear the slices in a dry skillet over medium-high heat for 2 minutes per side, until crisp and browned at the edges.
- Add the soy sauce and sugar to the pan and toss for 1 minute, until the slices are glazed and sticky. Watch closely, the sugar can burn fast.
- If you have a musubi mold, press about 1/3 cup of warm rice into it firmly. Otherwise, shape a compact rectangle by hand with wet hands.
- Lay one glazed Spam slice on top of each rice block.
- Wrap a strip of nori around the middle, shiny-side out, sealing the overlapping edge with a dab of water.
- Serve warm or at room temperature. Beginner tip: use warm, freshly cooked rice. Warm rice sticks together beautifully, cold rice crumbles apart.
